Best Hit Counter Map Widget for Blogger using Google Gadgets August 16, 2008

Posted by ClustrMaps Team in News.

[UPDATE: If you have landed at this page from an external search, you may not know that ClustrMaps is a very compact, fast, scalable, and no-frills hit counter that shows a tiny map with the locations of ALL visitors to your site, without them having to click on anything. Full details are on our main site at www.clustrmaps.com. This posting is about how we’ve made it even simpler to add our little widget or gadget to your blog].

Blogger has recently simplified the ability to ad widgets (or gadgets as they call them) to blog sites with blogspot.com addresses. We have accordingly updated our instructions for adding ClustrMaps to Blogger, including a detailed series of screen snapshots like this:

We love having so many Blogger/Blogspot users… enjoy the setup instructions and the widget/gadget! We’re always happy to help out if you need to drop us a line or leave a comment (message box will appear below after clicking).

Google map-based tool shows symptoms for any geographical spot.

Assuming Xraycop in previous comment was referring to the flexibility of Google Maps ‘pushpins’, let me add a comment about five key differences between ClustrMaps and ‘other stats and map tools’ (Xraycop should especially note item [d] below):

a) ‘widget = visualization’: most counters ask you to insert a special tracking ‘image’, typically a badge or a logo, that triggers the counting, but for ClustrMaps the tracking image is a 100% faithful rendition of the location of your visitors. In other words, the ‘trigger’ for the counter is also the visual counter itself – highly compact and highly accurate.

b) ‘gestalt rather than stats’: ClustrMaps is all about the ‘visual image’ – numbers are aviable too, but we empasize the quick overall visualization

c) ‘scalability’: many counters let you see the ‘last N visitors’ (say 500 or 1000) on a map, whereas ClustrMaps shows ALL visitors, using our proprietary clustering algorithm, that scales to millions, while maintaining speed (see next)

d) ‘speed’: instead of putting pushpins on a Google map, which renders very slowly when numbers exceed 1000, ClustrMaps pre-computes all images in advance… this is especially valuable for your large (full-page) world map, which is a pre-computed JPG image and is displayed immediately.

e) public ‘bragging rights’: some counters and maps require you to keep your information proprietary. ClustrMaps is all about showing off your visitor locations to your community
