Changes to ClustrMaps on MySpace [we are back!] November 16, 2006

Posted by ClustrMaps Team in News.

[Update: 19-February-2007: We’re back on MySpace! Ignore all the stuff below… which we have left only for historical purposes… instead, check out our ‘psssst…. we’re coming back to MySpace’ posting or even better, see the full instructions on our How-To page for ClustrMaps on MySpace.

There used to be three techinques for adding ClustrMaps to your MySpace pages: (1) adding it to your PROFILE, (2) adding it to your BLOG, (3) adding it to your GROUP DESCRIPTION.

As of mid-November 2006, it seems that even if you had successfully used any of these techniques in the past, you can no longer rely on it working on MySpace. Simply editing your profile or your blog header may change everything: only technique 2 (adding it to your MySpace blog) may work but that also has problems that we will resolve in January 2007. We believe this is due to the fact that MySpace does not really want either trackers or funny HTML workarounds on their main profile and group pages. We respect the MySpace terms and conditions of service and therefore do not want to encourage activity which is in violation of these terms. On the other hand, we are working hard to provide a viable mapping/tracking tool that fits appropriately within the rules of MySpace, and expect to have this available as a great feature for you to use in January 2007. We continue to provide specific instructions for MySpace here, and more general instructions for other kinds of sites here.
